Famous in Norway, Torghatten is the "mountain with the hole in the middle". We had to see. Here we are getting ready to hike up to the hole.
It was a substantial hike, so had to be supported appropriately.
But when we got there, sure enough, we found a hole right through the middle. It was hard to photograph, because the backlighting washed out the photo. But imagine a large (at least 60' high) natural tunnel right through the middle of a mountain. This is what the view looks like out one end of the "hole".
Lyell liked the climbing, and became quite proficient at building Cairns (stacked stones that mark the trail).
I know he's going to make quite a mountaineer. I just hope he will be willing to wait for me. |
